Biggest Ever Award for Sakar
In its decennial year Sakar English School has another great reason to be proud of; the School won the most coveted award from Wipro, ‘earthian 2012 –The Sustainability Program for Schools and Colleges’.
Nishi Ahuja, Jay Chauhan, Harsh Patel, Mohit Saini and Vanika Ahuja under the guidance of Dr. Jaya Kapale, presented a paper titled ‘Solid Waste Management: Problems and Solutions- a case study of Ahmedabad city’. This paper was short listed as one of the ten best entries in School category from more than 1300 that Wipro received from all over India. This is an outstanding accomplishment by Sakar which is definitely commendable. The school has won prize money of Rs.1 lakh and a shield .But Sakar’s winning streak did not stop there. The biggest and greatest moment came when the second accolade, TN Khoshoo Earthian Trophy 2012 was conferred on Sakar English School, as the paper presented not only cited the problems of solid waste management faced by the city but had the solutions for it too. This special Trophy was awarded to only two schools from the entire country; of which one is Sakar English School and the other is a school from Bangalore. In the school level, DPS International RK Puram, and in the college level, esteemed Institutes like IIT’s and IIM’s also reached the top ten winning category. The winners along with their teacher co-ordinators flew to Bangalore to accept the award from Mr Azim Premji, the doyen of Indian Software Industry. The students also got a rare opportunity to interact with this iconic personality for more than two hours.
Wipro has taken up sensitization of this earthian Project nationwide to enlighten the youth about environmental issues and to motivate them to act as catalysts in sustainable thought and action. All the winning institutes will intensify this Engagement Programme for the betterment of our beautiful planet.
